Why most methods fail on fine hair
A thick weft on fine hair fails twice. It shows, because there is not enough hair above it to cover the track. And it pulls, because the section holding it does not have the density to carry the weight. That combination is what people mean when they say extensions "did not work" for them.
What works: hand-tied wefts
A hand-tied weft is tied by hand rather than machine, which makes it dramatically thinner than a machine weft. Thin is the entire point. It lies flat, it hides under less hair, and it adds fullness without unnecessary bulk. It is the method built for fine to medium hair, and it is the one to ask about by name.
The colour advantage nobody mentions
Because hand-tied wefts are so thin, several can go into a single row. That means multiple tones blended together rather than one flat shade sitting against your hair. On fine hair this matters more, not less, because there is less of your own hair on top to break up a mismatch.
What to avoid
Volume wefts are machine-crafted and carry far more hair per row. They are excellent, and they are for medium to thick hair. If someone recommends them for fine hair, ask why. Keratin fusion K-tip is also worth discussing for fine hair, because strand-by-strand placement lets weight be spread rather than concentrated on a row.
One personal note
Alisa did not arrive at this academically. Her own hair was fine and fragile, broke, and would never get past a certain length. She wore her first set as a client before she ever installed one.
